Our Competition features a new and unique approach to a mock trial competition, hosting the only trial competition in the country where a Medical School and a Law School collaborate to simulate real life expert testimony by doctors. Upon release of the fact pattern, a Zucker School of Medicine student is assigned to each competing school to play the role of an expert witness. Each competing school will prepare the medical student for the trial and the medical student will be available to consult on medical issues. During the competition, the medical expert may be cross examined on any material relevant to their testimony, including literature not contained in the fact pattern.
Last year, each team had access to leading industry consultants from DOAR, a nationally renowned litigation strategy and expert witness consulting firm, for graphic and presentation support. For more than 30 years, DOAR has advised top tier law firms, corporations, and individuals on high-stakes cases.
The Competition’s four preliminary rounds were previously held at the Nassau County Supreme Court. Following the preliminary rounds, a banquet is held for all competitors and coaches, where awards are distributed. The semifinal and final rounds are held at Hofstra Law School. To ensure fairness to all competing teams: All rounds will be judged by practicing attorneys and/or sitting Judges and Hofstra Law is excited to host, but will not compete.
If you have any questions about the Competition, please contact Jared Rosenblatt at LawJRR@hofstra.edu.
